8 miles north on US 119/250 from Philippi to view the area where
the Union soldiers left the train to begin the march to Philippi
on June 2, 1861. The Anna Jarvis House served as General George
B. McClellan's headquarters. The troops were encamped on the
other side of the road. The house, the birthplace of the founder
of Mother's Day, and Welcome Center are open for visitors and
tours 10 to 4pm every day but Monday (April through Dec.31).
