Barbour County hosts a variety of annual events to which the public is invited. Click Here for dates.
Summer Theater
An annual Summer Theater offers singing and acting opportunities to the public with performances normally scheduled in late July. During its 18-year history, the productions on the outdoor stage of the Barbour County Fairgrounds have included such performances as Camelot, Kiss Me Kate, Fiddler on the Roof, On Golden Pond, Li'l Abner, Hello Dolly, the Music Man, and the 1995 production, Little Mary Sunshine.
The Springs Crafts Festival
Normally takes place in early April and attracts crafters from throughout West Virginia and surrounding states.
Blue &
Gray Reunion
The Blue & Gray Reunion, scheduled the first weekend in June, recaptures the spirit of the soldiers who fought on both sides and returned to Philippi after the Civil War to relive their experiences. Philippi's Reunion includes re-enactors, encampments, authentic sutlers, small arms demonstrations and skirmishes, and the reenactment of the first land battle of the Civil Ware, which took place June 3, 1861.
4th of July Celebration
4th of July Celebration with food concessions, activities for children, and of course fireworks.
The Wood & Timber Show
The Wood & Timber Show was held at the county fairgrounds and is expected to occur annually about the second weekend in June. Sponsored by the Belington Convention & Visitors Bureau and the West Virginia Forestry Association, the programs include heavy equipment and crafts exhibits, youth activities, draft horse skidding, wood chopping and loading contests, the state Game of Logging finals, and on-stage entertainment.
The Tacy Fair
The Tacy Fair is held in the Tacy Community Building in late August, the Belington Town Fair in early August and the Mt. Liberty Fall Festival in mid-October. The annual Barbour Count y Fair is held at the county fairgrounds between Philippi and Belington on U.S. Route 250 in early September and features nightly entertainment, a carnival, educational and farm exhibits and awards, and an extensive array of food concessions.
The Battle of Laurel Hill
The Battle of Laurel Hill re-enactment takes place in early July on the old Laurel Mountain Road between Belington and Elkins. It is the only Civil War re-enactment in West Virginia at this writing to involve cavalry units and their horses. The weekend event features a Civil Ware encampment, re-enactment of the original battle, a game of "rounders" between Union and Confederate troops, a costumed ball, pageant, parade, exhibits, night skirmishes, artillery demonstrations, and period church services.
