Agriculture

The 1992 Farm Census indicates there are 430 farms in the county raising cattle and calves primarily, with $3.7 million in agricultural products sold each year. Some farms also have hogs and sheep. The county ranks 12th in the state in hay production and 16th in beef cattle production.

There are over 76,000 acres in Barbour County devoted to farming and most farms average 50-500 acres in size. About half of local farmers are also employed off the farm.
